Sketches of Fishtown # 95 - Jack Rose

I have a few of Jack's albums. Unfortunately, I don't have a story about the first time I got to hear him play live, because I never got the chance. I love his music, and I love that he lived and played here in the neighborhood for years. I pray for his family. I looked over the last couple dozen "Sketches of Fishtown" issues this week as I am coming to a close on finishing Book 2. I have to say that there have been way too many memorial issues this year. This neighborhood has lost a lot of good people.

If you'd like to see video of Jack playing or learn more about him, go to: http://drragtime.com/

I wish I could have heard him play live while drawing in a sketchbook. He seemed like a great dude and a great family man.

Sketches of Fishtown # 94 - Mr. R

My niece Erin, a constant contributor to the project, submitted this idea. She really waned to see her teacher in the paper. She is always talking about what a great, funny, encouraging teacher Mr. Rutkowski is. So I was happy to oblige.

Sketches of Fishtown # 93 - Mary Winn

Thanks to Phil Bowdren for helping with not only the words, but the photo reference as well. I remember Mary and the whole Holy Name guitar group practicing in my living room when I was a kid. I'm not sure I really grasped what was going on at the time, but those were some neat times.

Sketches of Fishtown # 92 - In Memory of Joe Minarik

Joe was a great guy. I wish I would have known him longer. In the short few years I did know him, he helped me with several Cartoon Camps and projects with kids and art around the neighborhood. this is a huge loss to Fishtown. We'll definitely miss Joe Minarik.
